Decide on the theme of your love novel. Will it be a sweet romance set in the 1940s or a modern-day viscous fight to fall in love?
Develop characters. Learn about their personality, quirks, needs and wants. Make notes about each character. A love novel should be based on the couple. Make them real to your reader, who will want to be able to relate to them. It's acceptable to sprinkle friends and family throughout the story, but the focus of your story should always be the couple.
Design your environment. Where will the couple meet? What is the town like? What are the people in the town like? It's important to have a strong setting in your story because it helps a reader feel as if she has been there or wants to go there.
Develop a plot. What needs to happen for your couple to fall in love? How will it happen? When will it happen? What will they do about their new-found love? You need to answer these questions completely to catch--and keep--the reader's attention.
Write a rough draft of your love novel. Don't think about misspelled words, grammar or sentence structure. Just write the story in your own words until it is finished.
Allow the novel to sit a few days, and then go back to it. Read your love novel. Edit any misspelled words or grammar mistakes, and then re-write your novel correctly.
