Who does Elizabeth tell John has been pressed?

In the novel "The Scarlet Letter" by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Elizabeth, the wife of Reverend Dimmesdale, does not tell John (the husband of Hester Prynne) that anyone has been pressed.

It is Hester Prynne, who is told by Reverend Dimmesdale that a man has been pressed to death for stealing a loaf of bread. This is a significant moment in the novel as it serves to highlight the hypocrisy of the Puritan society.

It is important to note that John is not a character in the novel.
