In the Pokémon anime, Victreebel is James's Pokémon. While he can be temperamental and likes to bite James (usually in a playful way), there's no indication he actually dislikes him.
The relationship between a Trainer and their Pokémon is usually portrayed as one of mutual respect and trust, even if there are some comedic moments along the way. James and Victreebel are a good example of this!
