How To Make a Homemade Remembrance Book

A remembrance book stores the images, letters and keepsakes that provide direct access to treasured memories. These books allow family members and friends to relive important or sentimental events. The materials needed to design a remembrance book are readily available at craft shops or office supply outlets. To begin a remembrance book, select and organize the keepsakes designed to constitute the book. Additionally, organize the book by subject matter or chronological period.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a large-volume, binder-style photo album. Choose an album with dividers or sectioned areas. Make sure the cover contains a space or section for the addition of a title or family crest.

    • 2

Purchase holed document dividers at an office supply store. Select dividers with a subject tab. Or you can simply purchase a set of adhesive tabs for use with the dividers. Choose dividers that match the color scheme of your photo album.

    • 3

Organize your photos. Select the specific photos you want to include in your remembrance book. Divide them into groups by subject (such as vacations, graduation events, childhood memories, professional accomplishments). Additionally, place the photos in chronological order for ease of placement into the remembrance book.

    • 4

Select your documents. Pick a set of documents to copy, such as birth certificates or educational awards, diplomas or degrees. Obtain new copies to safeguard or replace originals. Arrange these in chronological order.

    • 5

Select your keepsakes. These could be tickets to favorite shows or special events, copies of pay stubs, sentimental letters and correspondence. You may also choose items with a significant meaning or correlation related to a certain time or event. These can include awards or the copy of a deed from the purchase of a first home.

    • 6

Label the dividers. Organize the dividers either by subject matter or time period. Mark the labels accordingly. For example, you can label each divider in ascending decade order ('60s, '70s, '80s, etc.), or choose subjects, such as "Education" or "Employment". When complete, place these dividers into the photo album.

    • 7

Title your book using the space on the album cover. For albums without a title space, create a separate sheet of paper with the image of the family crest or dedication information for offspring or in remembrance of ancestors. Use colored documents to enhance the overall feel.

Add sections by chronological order or by type or by predetermined subject matter. Attach labels to each page for bullet comments or commentary. You can make changes to the order as needed, and you can always add information as new events occur
