How to Reference a Term Paper

One of the most important aspects of the term paper is the reference page. This page is a compilation of all the sources consulted and quoted in the actual body of the paper. It also gives proper credit where it is due, and helps avoid accidental plagiarism. These five steps and tips will teach you how to properly reference a term paper.

Title your reference page Works Cited and center it in the middle of the page. Do not underline or place the title in quotation marks. Make sure your reference page is a separate page at the end of your term paper, but numbered consecutively after the last page of your paper.

Enter citations in alphabetical order. Double-space all separate citations, but do not put spaces between lines of the same entry. Indent the second line and all subsequent lines of all citations. For in-text citations, put the author's last name and the page number in parentheses, separated by a comma.
