Plug your USB microphone into a USB port on your computer. Attach the pop filter to the microphone's stand. The pop filter will block heavy "s" and "p" sounds. Plug your headphones into the headphone jack on your computer.
Open your audio program. Start a new project. Open your mixer view. On the tracks in the sound mixer, you will see a window for the inputs of the tracks. On the track you plan on recording to, set the input to your USB microphone. On the master track, set the output to the headphones.
Put the track you want to record on into record-ready. You can do this by clicking the button on the track with either a circle or an "R" on it. This arms the track, and now you can hear what your microphone is picking up in the headphones.
Turn off any air conditioners or heaters that may be making sound. Press "record" on the audio program interface. The interface has buttons like "stop" and "play" on it. The "record" button has a circle on it.
Read your text. Don't worry about making mistakes; you can edit them once you are finished. When you have recorded your text, press "stop."
Prepare another track for recording and take the first track out of record-ready. Listen to your audio. When you find a place you want to edit, record the audio on the new track.
Cut out the audio on the first track and replace it with the new audio. You can do this by using the cutting tool, which usually has scissors on its icon. After you cut out the section to be replaced, click and drag the new audio into the old track. Use a cross-fader tool to blend the two tracks. This will usually be found in the same place as the cutting tool. The cross-fading tool will make the edit smooth.
Export your audio book to your computer in a folder you can find easily. It will export typically into an .aiff or .wav format.
Import the audio file into a CD burning program such as iTunes. You can usually convert the file to .mp3 in these programs.
Make sure each block of audio is less than eighty minutes. CDs only have eighty minutes of space on them.
Burn a CD of your audio book.
