Instructions

    • 1

Weigh your items by placing them on a home scale to ensure they weigh less than 70 pounds--the limit for media mail. If the total weight of your items is greater than 70 pounds, create two piles to be sent in lighter packages.

    • 2

Package your items by wrapping them in bubble wrap or thick paper to prevent water or other damage to your books or documents, as your mail might be tossed about during its transit. Place your wrapped items into a box or other delivery container, such as a mailing envelope, and seal it tightly. The package may be no bigger than 108 inches in combined length and width.

    • 3

Address your package. Neatly write the address to which you are sending your media mail. Cover to the address with tape to prevent water or other substances from smearing your writing during transit.

    • 4

Take your package(s) to the U.S. Post Office. Inform the postal worker you would like to send your package via media mail. Confirm with him you are sending the appropriate items, such as books, CDs and printed music.

    • 5

Submit payment for your media mail. After the postal worker calculates the shipment rate, pay via cash, check or credit card.
