How to Make a Story on Storybook Weaver

Storybook Weaver Deluxe is a computer program designed to help children learn how to create their own storybooks. The story possibilities are endless, especially if a child taps into her imagination. Storybook Weaver also has English and Spanish modes, so children can work on their bilingual skills while nurturing their creativity. Storybook Weaver has a simple design so children as young as 5 years old can use the program with minor help from an adult.

      Load the program by clicking on the icon on your desktop or from where you keep computer programs and files. Let the title screen come up and enter the program.

      Look at the icons on the opening screen. Locate the open book icon. When you hover over the icon, "Create a story" should appear on the screen. Click on the open book, which will take you to the title page.

      Give your story a title and list yourself as the author in the indicated boxes. There is also a third box called "comments." In this box, you can list secondary authors or a note for whom the book is written.
      On the title page, you can also add borders to the cover of your book by clicking on the picture frame icon on the upper left side of the screen. The borders menu will appear on the bottom. Once you choose a border you like, click on "apply" to make the border appear on your title page.

      Move your cursor to the bottom of the screen and click on the red, right-facing arrow to go to a new page. This will be the first page of your storybook.

      Decide on a background for your first page by clicking on the tree icon. Here, you will have several background options. Choose a background to fit the mode of the story you are creating. If your story is a nature story, choose a nature scene, for example. Click on the background you want then click "apply" to make the background appear on your page.

      Choose objects for your story with the stamp pad icon. Under this icon, you have more than 1,000 images to choose from ranging from people to animals, cars to buildings and signs. You can click on the object you want to appear on the screen. Move the object to where you want on your background. Change the objects by clicking on the pencil icon. Change the objects' colors, give the objects different clothes or even change the size of the objects. Once you made the changes you want, you can click on the green check mark on the bottom left corner to place the changed object on the screen.

      Add text to the page by clicking on the white text box located underneath the image you added in the previous steps. Click on the box to begin typing your story. Add text that describes the image or begin narrating your story using phrases like, "Once upon a time in a land far away ... ." The possibilities are endless in a story. Once you type your page, click on the floppy disk icon on the bottom of the screen to save your process.

      Give your story a name when the save box appears. The story should save as an .swd file. Remember to save your story in a place where you can easily locate it to work on it later.

      Continue adding pages to your story by using the red arrow icons until you reach a desirable conclusion. Save the story if you wish to keep it for future use. Once completed, you can print your story by going to "File," "Print." Your story is complete.
