Short Anime Hairstyles

As an art form, anime has come full circle. The cartoon drawings that are based on real individuals with some exaggerated features, are now inspiring real life fashion and style trends. Just as in real life, anime hairstyles come in all different lengths and shapes. Short hairstyles have the benefit of being versatile enough to be used for male or female anime characters, and are a popular choice for those seeking to get their own hair cut in an anime style.
  1. How To Draw Short Anime Hair

    • When drawing anime or manga characters, it is important to remember that short or long, the hair must have an origin point. The hair must either be concentrated along a line so that it looks like a typical hair part or the hair can be concentrated along a point, which is usually located towards the back of the head and slightly off-center.

    Bangs or Fringe

    • Very little foreheads appear in anime. Hair tends to swoop down over the forehead and to the side of the face, or the forehead is covered by bangs. Anime bangs tend to be ragged and uneven and usually come down just to the eyes or extend a little lower so that they are partly covering the eyes. It's a look that isn't practical in real life, but works for cartoon characters.

    Natural Styles

    • Natural looking short anime hairstyles, do not look too much different than regular everyday hairstyles. They do all have that slightly uneven look in the bangs, in the ends of the hair or both. Often, there are several layers in an anime hairstyle with those jagged ends marking the break between the different layers. If copying an anime style for your own look, the natural look is probably the easiest to pull off, but you will want to clip those bangs so that they are not directly in your eyes.

    Wild Styles

    • Anime characters tend to be a bit more exaggerated than their real world models, and that goes for their hairstyles as well. In short hairstyles a lot of very spiky hair styles are seen. These run the gamut from gently tousled looking spikes, to sharp pointy spikes that stand a few inches off the head. The wildest styles feature prominent spikes dyed in bright colors.
