Decide on what types of mixes you would like to make, from gravy to alcoholic cocktails perfect for dinner parties. Consider how your own mixes can be used in various recipes for your cookbook.
Gather your mix of ingredients so that they are all at hand. Experiment with different ingredients to create different types of mixes. Some concoctions may not work and will taste awful but some will be successful and taste great. Refer to other recipe books as a resource guide to find out what main ingredients are used to make up specific condiment mixes or recipes. Once you know the fundamental rules regarding ingredients, you can be free to be creative by adding your own range of herbs, spices and other seasonings to your recipes.
Write every ingredient down as you experiment; you do not want to forget that crucial ingredient in a successful mix.
Create some recipes using your own mixes. Try to make various recipes using each mix. For instance, if you make a great gravy mix, then incorporate that mix into various types of meat dishes: sausage casseroles, beef hotpot, or some entirely new meat recipe. Head each chapter with a type of mix, then the chapter includes various recipes using that mix, or similar mixes.
Type up your recipes in Microsoft Word. List ingredients and amounts used and write a method to explain the steps taken to make each recipe. Save each recipe that is ready for your cookbook.
Take photographs of recipes made. Present each recipe in an appetizing way, to tempt the reader.
Upload your photographs of your recipes to your computer via a FireWire or a USB cable. Edit your photographic images, to crop, enhance photo quality, or to add lighting effects, if necessary. Save your images to your pictures folder.
Insert photos into your word document. Make sure the cursor is in the space where you want the image to appear. Click on the insert tab, then click on picture tab. The open menu screen will appear. Select a photo image and click on the insert button. The image will open in your document.
Organize your page layout. Click on the image to allow it to be edited. Resize your images by clicking on one of the four center tabs positioned at the edges of the photo. Move image by hovering the mouse over the image until you see a cross-like cursor. Click on the image, hold and drag it to the desired position and release. Tilt the image by moving your mouse cursor over the green circle above the photograph and moving your mouse left or right, if applicable.
