How to Indicate the Removal of Italics
"Books make sense of life," as English novelist Julian Barnes wrote, but it is often the responsibility of a publisher's editorial staff to make sense of a book. Though the author is the creative force behind any written work, the published version of that work passes through the hands of editors, proofreaders and printers before it finally reaches your hands as either hard-copy or an e-text. One of the last individuals to overlook an author's text before it goes into production is the proofreader. If a proofreader wishes to tell the printer to remove the italics from an italicized word or words in a text, he follows a very simple procedure.
