Open the book or magazine document in Microsoft Word 2010.
Click on "File," "Print" and then "Page Setup" in the menu bar a the top of the screen. A new window will pop up.
Click on the "Margins" tab at the top of the window. Add 1/4-inches to the gutter. This moves the words over so they don't get swallowed up in the book binding. In the "Multiple Pages" drop down header section, select "Book Fold" and select "All" next to "Sheets Per Booklet." Click "Okay."
Click "File" and "Print." In this drop down menu you have the option of selecting "Print on Both Sides" or "Manually Print on Both Sides." Select "Manually Print" if you don't have a printer that automatically flips pages for printing on both sides.
Adjust your printer settings as desired. Use a high dpi, such as 600 dpi, and color ink for the best quality books and magazines.
Place an 8.5-inch by 11-inch sheet of paper into the printer. Click "Okay." The first page will print. Examine it for any errors. Place remaining sheets into printer and continue printing. Flip all pages manually once one sided printing is complete and continue printing on the second side.
Bind the book or magazine together with staples or thread down the gutter. Glue into a book or magazine cover with wood glue. Allow to dry.
