How to Write a Comic Book Synopsis

The dreaded synopsis. Most writers disdain these distilled summaries and find them to be the hardest part of their craft. However, a synopsis is critical in getting your comic book story noticed and published. As such, you need to put a sincere effort into creating an attention-grabbing synopsis. While condensing your story, keep in mind the importance of a dynamic opening, pivotal plot points, a climax and a satisfying conclusion.

Read your comic book from start to finish. Write a one- or two-page summary of the issue, including such details as plot developments and character introductions. This will form the basis of your comic book synopsis. However, you must not stop with just one issue; provide a synopsis of the entire series or story arc as well.

Edit. Your comic book synopsis should not read like a summary, but rather a narrative of intriguing and necessary information that will pique the editor's interest. To whittle your synopsis down to an acceptable length --- which varies from publisher to publisher --- remove any hyperbole and extraneous adjectives, adverbs and descriptions.
