Set up a website for the book using the book's title or the author's name as the domain name for the site. There should be a page titled "Press Inquiries" that contains information on getting a review copy and interviewing the author. The site should also have a shopping cart system for online purchases of the book.
Create an online buzz about the book by having reviews published on popular family websites, mommy blogs and book forums. Contact webmasters, online book reviewers and popular bloggers offering them a free review copy of your book if they are interested in publishing their review. Follow up a couple weeks after sending the books to make sure they were received and will be reviewed.
Contact libraries in the state where the author lives to boost the local connection. Send them copies of recent reviews on the book and a photocopy of the cover and request that they carry the book on their shelves.
Look for interview and podcast opportunities online and in person. Consider your local or regional newspapers, area radio shows and podcast stations related to family or children's topics. You'll have to pitch your interview request to the host so develop a strong angle for each outlet.
Make sure the book is available for sale on Amazon and in major bookstore chains, such as Borders and Barnes and Nobles. Listing the book on Amazon is a simple process; getting it into book stores will require more legwork as you have to go through wholesalers who distribute the books to bookstores.
