Read the book from cover to cover. Take notes to remember important key passages in order to write a more effective, informative foreword.
Write the opening paragraph. The opening paragraph should introduce yourself in a few succinct sentences and then describe the connection you have with the author and the book. If you don't know the author personally, explain how important the message of the book is.
Write a short anecdote about how the book or the author helped in an aspect of your life. This could be anything from a chance meeting with the author to a realization that the contents of the book were relevant to a difficult time you were going through.
Explain the contents and benefits of the book to the reader. The reader should know why the book is relevant to him, so give the reader an intriguing reason for why this particular book is unique and connect the book to experiences that a reader may face in everyday life.
Close the foreword by calling the reader to action. Tell the reader to continue reading on to experience the benefits of the book, profoundly change his life, or make him think. You can also connect the importance of reading the book to a broader social concern, such as helping teenage girls everywhere or helping eliminate poverty.
Sign your name at the bottom of the foreword. After the name, add your title. If you have several titles, add the most relevant title to keep it brief.
