Dorothea Rosina Mary McAreavey (November 19, 1920–March 21, 2014) was an Irish mathematician, physicist, and academic.

McAreavey was born in Derry, Northern Ireland. She was educated at the University of Edinburgh, where she earned a degree in mathematics and physics. After graduating, she worked as a research assistant at the University of Cambridge.

In 1947, McAreavey moved to the United States, where she joined the faculty of the University of California, Berkeley. She remained at Berkeley for the rest of her career, eventually becoming a full professor.

McAreavey's research focused on the theory of elasticity and the mechanics of solids. She was also interested in the history of science and mathematics.

In addition to her academic work, McAreavey was also active in public service. She served on the board of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and was a member of the National Science Board.

McAreavey died in 2014 at the age of 93. She was a pioneer in the field of mathematics and an inspiration to many women scientists.
