Who were two famous northern abolitionists?

Frederick Douglass

Frederick Douglass was an African-American abolitionist, orator, writer, and statesman. After escaping from slavery in 1838, he became a national leader of the abolitionist movement in Massachusetts and New York, gaining note for his dazzling oratory and incisive antislavery writings. In his time as a leader, Douglass famously met with President Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Law Olmsted, and he held several public offices. Towards the end of his career, he also served as the US Marshal for the District of Columbia and as the Haitian chargé d'affaires to the US.

William Lloyd Garrison

William Lloyd Garrison was an American abolitionist, suffragist, and journalist. He was the editor of the abolitionist newspaper The Liberator from 1831 to 1865. Garrison is considered to be one of the most influential figures in the abolitionist movement, and his work helped to bring about the end of slavery in the United States.
