What tragic news did Alphonse report in letter Mary Frankenstein?

In Mary Shelley's novel "Frankenstein", Alphonse Frankenstein does not send any letters to Mary Frankenstein regarding tragic news. Alphonse himself becomes the victim of a murder by the creature Victor Frankenstein created. So there's no such situation of a letter by Alphonse in the Novel.
