Who was the author of Silent Night?

Silent Night was written as a German poem, "Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht", by Joseph Mohr in 1818. Franz Xaver Gruber composed the melody in 1818. The carol was first performed on Christmas Eve of 1818 in the church of St. Nicholas in Oberndorf, Austria.
