The Uganda professional journalist codes of ethics in 1985 are as follows:

1. The journalist shall at all times uphold and defend the principles of truthfulness, accuracy, objectivity and fairness in the gathering and dissemination of information.

2. The journalist shall not knowingly disseminate false, inaccurate or distorted information.

3. The journalist shall use only fair and honest means to gather information and shall respect the privacy of individuals.

4. The journalist shall not plagiarize the work of others.

5. The journalist shall not accept bribes or other forms of payment for the publication or suppression of information.

6. The journalist shall not engage in the practice of checkbook journalism.

7. The journalist shall not engage in the practice of black propaganda.

8. The journalist shall not engage in the practice of sensationalism.

9. The journalist shall not use his or her position to further his or her own interests.

10. The journalist shall at all times uphold and defend the principles of freedom of expression.
