How did afi get their name?

The band's name is derived from the American Film Institute (AFI), a non-profit organization established by the United States government in 1967 to record, preserve and celebrate American cinema. The band's founders, Davey Havok and Jade Puget, were both film students and were inspired by the AFI's mission to preserve American film history. They chose the name AFI as a tribute to their shared passion for film.
