Robert Stephen Paul Beekes (20 October 1932 – 10 October 2019) was a British linguist and classicist. He was Professor of Comparative Philology in the Faculty of Classics at the University of Leiden, and formerly Lecturer and then Professor of Greek and Latin at University College London. He worked on the linguistics and philology of ancient languages such as Mycenaean Greek, Proto-Greek, Proto-Indo-European and Etruscan.
