Why did Mo Willems become a writer?

Mo Willems became a writer after working in animation for several years. While he enjoyed the animation process, he felt that it moved too slowly and that he wasn't able to produce as much work as he wanted. He became interested in writing and illustrating children's books after reading a book by Rosemary Wells, and he decided to pursue this as a full-time career.
