How is the bond made in The Merchant of Venice?

The bond in William Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice is made between Antonio and Shylock. It states that if Antonio fails to repay a loan of 3,000 ducats within three months, Shylock will be entitled to a pound of flesh from Antonio's body. The bond is signed in Act I, Scene III, and becomes a central focus of the play's plot.
