What are the aspects of a proscenium-arch stage?

Proscenium Arch

- A large opening in the front of the stage, through which the audience sees the performance

- Creates a separation between the audience and the performers

Backstage Area/Wings

- Located behind the proscenium arch

- Where actors wait to enter or leave the stage

- Also used as storage space for props, sets, and costumes

Fly Space/Loft

- Area above the stage

- Used to house lighting, sound equipment, and other technical gear

- Also used to store scenery that is not currently in use

Orchestra Pit

- Area in front of the stage

- Where the orchestra sits during performances

Apron

- The area of the stage that extends in front of the proscenium arch

- Often used for scenes that take place outside of the main setting

Scrim

- A thin, translucent curtain

- Used to create effects such as fog or rain

- Can also be used to project images or videos onto the stage
