Why the name fountain pen?

Fountain pens get their name from the reservoir or "fountain" of ink that they hold that feeds ink to the nib. This distinguishes them from other writing instruments like dip pens, which require the user to repeatedly dip the nib into an inkwell to obtain ink for writing. This feature of having a built-in ink reservoir enables fountain pens to hold a greater ink capacity and provide a controlled flow of ink to the nib, promoting smoother and more convenient writing. Moreover, this design eliminates the need for frequent ink refilling compared to dip pens.
