Where did the babylonians go?

After the fall of Babylon to the Achaemenid Empire in 539 BC, many Babylonians were deported to other parts of the empire, while others remained in Babylon under Persian rule. The Babylonian culture and religion continued to flourish for some time, but gradually declined over the next few centuries. By the 1st century AD, Babylon was a largely abandoned city, and the Babylonian language was no longer spoken.

A small group of Babylonian Jews remained in Babylon after the Persian conquest, and they later played an important role in the development of Jewish culture and religion during the Second Temple period. The Babylonian Talmud, one of the most important texts of Jewish law, was compiled in Babylon during this time.

In the 7th century AD, Babylon was conquered by the Arab Muslims, and it became part of the Islamic world. The city continued to decline, and by the 10th century, it was largely abandoned. Today, the ruins of Babylon lie near the city of Hillah in modern-day Iraq.
