Roll a one-inch ball of skin-toned polymer clay. Make small indentations at about the horizontal center to form eye sockets. Spread the indentations out to form almond-shaped eye openings. Place a painted eyeball in the eye socket or make an eye from a small ball of white polymer clay. Either paint the eye or add colored polymer clay for the iris. Eyes of fairies are proportionally large. Add a tiny piece of flattened clay to each eye for eyelids and smooth into place.
Pinch off a small amount of skin-toned clay and roll into a cone for the nose. Attach the cone to the face with the point between the eyes. Smooth the cone into the face to make a nose shape. Add nostrils if you want that detail.
Pinch two small bits clay off and roll them into short wide tubes to form lips. Place one over the other under the nose. Blend them into lip shapes. If your fairy is female, the lips will be fuller and more curvaceous. Add a small ball of clay to each side of the face under the eyes. This will be about the same size as each lip. Blend each of these two balls in to the face in the form of cheekbones. Squeeze the chin to make it a little bit narrow and blend the cheekbones down into the cheeks.
Add a piece of polymer clay to the top of the head and blend it in. This will give the head an additional bit of roundness. Add two pieces of clay, one to each side of the head where you want the ears. Blend the front edge to the face and pull the upper rear edges up into points. Continue working the shape, blending it into an ear and then move on to the other ear.
Form about a 3-inch ball of clay into a tubular shape and then pull a neck and shoulders up from the top edge of the body. Form a waist just below the center point of the fairy body. Sculpt any details on the body that you wish. If this is a female fairy, you may wish to add two equal sized balls to the front of the chest and blend them in to form breasts. Form the glute muscles on the back of the fairy if desired.
Roll two equal sections of polymer clay into long thin arms of equal size. Roll two equal sections of clay into two legs of equal size. Make flattened hands with wrists attached and add the pinky and pointer fingers. Cut out and add two more fingers to each hand. Make a cone for the thumb and attach it to the inside of each hand. Sculpt the details of fingernails, joints and finger position on your fairy's hands.
For the wings, draw out your design on Mylar with a Sharpie so that you can see through from either side. Lay your cellophane over the design and place your plastic covered cut wire pieces on the design where they are needed. Super glue the wire in place. After the super glue is dry, paint each wing with Gallery Glass. Add polyester fine glitter to the Gallery Glass while it is still wet.
When the wings have dried, use a heat gun to melt the cellophane and bring up the color of the glitter into your project. Leave two pieces of metal wing component available for attachment to the fairies. Before you attach the fairies, however, bake the fairies component parts according to polymer clay manufacturer's directions. When the fairy is completely cooked, add the wings, hair and any other decor you choose, including clothes if desired. Add hair using glue or clay adhesive, and the fairy is complete.
