Roll a large-sized ball of clay in your hands. The ball should be about as big around as the palm of your hand. Knead it until it is soft and easy to work with. Shape an oblong or egg-shaped body out of the ball.
Knead and squeeze a small ball of clay, half the size of the dragon's body, in your hands until soft. Shape the clay into a neck and head. Pose the head as desired. Connect the neck and head to the body by rubbing the clay with your thumb. This blends the clay together around the edges until it looks like one piece.
Knead another small lump of clay, half the size of the body, until you can easily mold and shape it. Create a tail by rolling the clay in your hands to create a worm-looking piece. Leave it thicker at one end and taperi off toward the opposite end. Connect it to the back end of the body, blending it in with your thumb so there is no seam line.
Create legs for your dragon from the ball of clay about the size of the body. Pinch off four equal-sized pieces for the legs. Mold the legs in the desired pose. Form the foot at the bottom of the leg with three our four toes on each foot. Blend the legs into the bottom side of the body with your thumb.
Flatten out a large ball of clay, half the size of your dragon's body, on a table. Use a toothpick to create an outline for wings. Mold the dragon wings in the desired position before smoothing them onto the back of the dragon.
Add details to your dragon using a toothpick or small pointed utensil. Make scalloped edges around on the body of your dragon to look like scales. Chisel into the face to create distinct facial features. Add small beads into the clay for eyes or you can form your own with clay. Shape the snout and nostrils with the toothpick.
Shape small spikes out of bits of clay to add down the middle of your dragon's back and tail. Make small pointy claws to add to your dragon's toes.
Set your dragon on a cookie sheet and bake in the oven according to the setting and time indicated on the polymer clay package.
