How to Make a Simple Scarecrow

A scarecrow is a figure made to generally resemble a human. Farmers place scarecrows in fields to help chase away crows and other animals that do damage to the crops. Making a simple scarecrow isn't difficult and can be accomplished using items often found around the house.

Instructions

    • 1

Two two sticks together in a cross fashion. The vertical stick should be about six feet long and the horizontal stick should be about three feet. You can make these sticks longer if you want a larger scarecrow. Use wire and bind the sticks together in a cross shape.

    • 2

Dress the sticks in old clothing. Stuff the shirt and pants with straw. Use wire around the base of the pants and sleeves to secure them tight enough to hold the straw inside. Use as much straw as you need for the size of the scarecrow you want.

    • 3

Fill a small burlap sack with straw and place it on top of the stick, then tie the burlap sack tight around the stick to keep it in place and keep the straw inside. Use a marker to draw a face on the burlap sack if you'd like. A face isn't necessary to suit the purpose of the scarecrow, but drawing one can add a personality to your scarecrow.
