Untwist and straighten three wire hangers with pliers. Cut the first to the length for the monster's body. Place the remaining two wires across the body, one wire towards the top to represent arms and the other towards the bottom to represent legs. Twist the wires around the body wire at the halfway point. Trim if needed by cutting with the pliers.
Crumple newspaper around the middle of the wire to form a ball to represent the body. Secure with masking tape.
Bend the wire for the legs and arms into the position desired. An example is to bend the arm wire in the center to represent a bent arm at the elbow.
Attach newspaper to the arms and legs by crumpling and then securing with masking tape.
Create the head by crumbling newspaper around the wire above the body. Secure with masking tape.
Sketch and then cut out shapes to represent hands and feet from the cardboard. The style for the hands and feet will depend on the monster. Attach to the ends of the wire and secure with tape.
Create a papier-mache paste by mixing one part water to one part glue.
Dip strips of newspaper in the papier-mache mix and apply over the newspaper sculpture of the monster. Repeat the process until you have three layers. Let dry.
Prime the sculpture with gesso paint. Let dry. Repeat the process for a second layer or until the newspaper no longer shows through.
Paint as desired with acrylic paints. Let dry.
