How to Build a Movie Marquee Box

The fun in watching a movie incorporates the entire experience of seeing the actual movie and being surrounded by the theater venue complete with a movie marquee with the title of the showcased film, a popcorn stand and cushioned seats. Many movie buffs extend the "movie experience" to their home movie theaters. Aside from setting up a premier entertainment system, designing the room similar to a theater makes the movie watching experience more tangible.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy a large rectangular corkboard to use as the backing of your marquee. This corkboard should be of similar size to a typical movie marquee seen in theaters. It should be long enough to accommodate the film's title and other significant information about the movie and it should be easily read from afar. If building your own movie marquee for room use only, a scaled down corkboard size may do.

    • 2

Measure the size of your corkboard, then use these measurements to cut a piece of white felt paper that can completely cover its front part. Use low-profile or designed thumbtacks to attach the white felt over the corkboard.

    • 3

Use letter stencils that can be typically acquired from a hardware, arts and crafts or office store to make the lettering for your movie marquee. Buy varying stencil sizes of each letter so that you have the largest ones for the movie title, medium ones for the actors and another font variation for the show times. You can choose stencils that allow you to copy the font and layout of classic movie marquees or you can come up with an original font and design.

    • 4

Trace the stencils onto your black felt paper, then use the scissors to cut out the letters for your movie marquee. Cut out at least two of each consonant and four of each vowel for each set of letters. By creating letters out of felt, which naturally sticks to itself, you can save on adhesives and the letters won't get worn out due to frequent pasting.

Arrange the letters to spell out the film's title, along with the other details you want to include in your movie marquee box.
