Form a ball of aluminum foil for the head of the orangutan to the size you wish the head to be. Cover the head with polymer clay, with a second half sphere of foil then attached to the clay to form the muzzle of the orangutan. Apply more clay to the foil muzzle and blend to the clay on the head.
Press black beads into the clay of the orangutan head to form the eyes of the model. Wrinkles can be added around the eyes using a flat-ended tool and long thin pieces of clay can be blended into the area around the eyes to form extra wrinkles.
Form the mouth of the orangutan by making a mark to part the clay and fashion the shape of the mouth with the flat-edged tool. Form small balls of clay into the shape of the nose and ears and press into the head to form the features of the orangutan.
Fire the clay to harden the material and cool the clay before painting it. Acrylic and oil-based paints can be used to decorate the head with a glaze added to give the appearance of skin to the model.
Attach hair to the model. Cut the auburn mohair to the desired length. Attach the hair using PVA glue. The hair should be attached by brushing the glue onto the model before pressing the mohair firmly onto the figure.
Affix the mohair on the head from the hairline to the nape of the neck. Hair can be added to the cheeks and beard area of the head. Complete the model by creating the body, with the limbs and body also covered in the mohair.
