Claws are not made from bone. They are made from a tough, fibrous protein called keratin, the same material that makes up our hair and nails.
While the claw is attached to a bone called the phalanx, the claw itself is a separate structure. The phalanx provides the support and leverage for the claw, allowing the animal to use it for digging, climbing, hunting, or defense.
