Whose head is on the sphinx?

The head of the Great Sphinx of Giza is believed to be modeled after Pharaoh Khafre, who ruled Egypt during the Fourth Dynasty.

While the exact purpose of the Sphinx remains a mystery, it is generally accepted that it was built during Khafre's reign.
