Who invented clay animation?

The first known use of clay animation was by the British artist Arthur Melbourne-Cooper, who created a series of short silent films between 1898 and 1910. The first clay animation film to be released commercially was "The Sculptor's Nightmare", created by Ladislas Starevich in 1911.
