What does a claymore look like?

A claymore is a large Scottish two-handed sword. The blade is typically between 32 and 42 inches long, with its hilt about 13 inches. It has a distinctive crossguard, which is often highly ornamented, and a wide, single-edged blade that flares towards the point. The blade is usually straight, although some curved examples exist, and the point is typically sharp, although some claymores have blunted points. The hilt is usually made of wood, with the grip covered with leather or fabric, and the pommel is often made of metal or horn. The claymore was used as a primary weapon by Scottish soldiers from the late Middle Ages to the 18th century. It was especially popular among the Scottish Highlanders, who used it as a cutting weapon and for thrusting attacks. The claymore was also used by some Scottish Lowlanders, and it was exported to other parts of Europe, where it was sometimes called the "Scottish sword".
