Why were the Hammurabi clay tablets made?

To codify the laws of ancient Babylon

The most famous of the Hammurabi clay tablets is the Codex Hammurabi, which is a collection of 282 laws from ancient Babylonia. The laws cover a wide range of topics, including criminal justice, property rights, and family law. The tablets were created to ensure that everyone in Babylonia was aware of the laws and could be held accountable for their actions.
