How to Do Giant Graffiti Stickers

Graffiti is an artistic form of self-expression that can share a message or meaning with a large audience. While some graffiti is illegally painted on public and private properties, creating graffiti doesn't have to break any laws. You can make a graffiti design to decorate your own home or property. Instead of permanently altering the surface with paint, make a graffiti sticker as large as you desire to adhere the design any place you choose.

Things You'll Need

  • Scratch paper
  • Pencil
  • Lightweight paper, such as bulletin board paper

Instructions

    • 1

Sketch the graffiti design on a piece of paper. Write the word or message you want to share, such as your name or a short phrase. Position the letters and words to your liking to form the general shape of the graffiti design. Begin experimenting with various graffiti fonts, such as bubble lettering or bordering that makes the letters look three dimensional.

    • 2

Cut a piece of paper to the size you want your sticker to be. Avoid using heavy papers like cardboard, and instead use a lightweight paper, such as bulletin board paper. Ensure the shape of the paper will fit the graffiti design you've sketched.

    • 3

Draw the graffiti design on the piece of paper, and begin by writing each letter and word. Embellish the message by turning the letters into decorative fonts. Use graffiti you've seen around town or online as inspiration, while also adding your own personal flair to the design. Add adornments around the letters, too, such as lightening bolts or shooting stars.

    • 4

Paint the graffiti design with a medium of your choice. Markers and paints are easy-to-work-with and will add bright colors to the art. Airbrush paints, which blow paint on the page through an air compressor, will recreate the traditional spray paint graffiti look. Cover the entire design with color. Allow the paint to dry.

    • 5

Spray the backside of the paper with a spray adhesive. This glue won't wrinkle or bleed through the paper, and it allows you to stick the page on almost any surface. If you want to remove the sticker in the future, spray the page with a temporary bond spray adhesive. Place the sticker on the wall you want to decorate, starting by pressing the page in the center and moving outward from there. Trace the sticker with a credit card to flatten out any bubbles or wrinkles.
