During the 18th century, French masters of the art established the foundational system from which the modern sport of fencing derives, and it was included as one of the original events contested at the first modern-day Olympic Games held in Athens in 1896.
From there, fencing became a worldwide phenomenon that remains an extremely popular pastime and internationally competitive sport in this day and age. National and international events are regularly broadcast both locally and globally over multiple channels and streaming formats so anyone, anywhere that is keen on the pastime or sport gets the opportunity to enjoy viewing, and perhaps be inspired to participate themselves.
