Skin preparation is the first step to successfully transferring a stencil for a tattoo. Mix three parts water with one part soap in a spray bottle for spraying on the skin. Wet the skin with the mixture of liquid soap and water. This will clean the skin and prepare it to be shaved. Shave the skin with a disposable razor, wipe the loose hair off with a clean paper towel, and dispose of the razor and paper towel. Spray the skin again for application of the stencil.
Don latex or nitrile gloves and hold the stencil by the edges, in between your middle fingers and thumbs. Ensure that the purple side of the stencil is facing the skin. Hold the stencil directly in front of the body part and check to make sure that the stencil is held straight. Place the stencil lightly on the body part, feeling the middle of the stencil adhere to the moisture on the skin. Remove your fingers from the stencil without touching the body part or moving the stencil. Moving the fingers slowly outward will prevent the stencil from moving. Smooth the stencil onto the body part from the middle out to the edges using the palm of your hand. Use light pressure while smoothing the stencil onto the body part so that the stencil will not move or smear. Let the stencil sit for 30 to 45 seconds. Peel the stencil off the body part in one slow motion. Start at one corner and pull downward to avoid the stencil rubbing and leaving incorrect or double lines on the skin. Allow the stenciled skin to dry for several minutes before beginning the tattoo.
