Your pens come with different size nubs; you'll need to remove the nub and place ink in your pen. The ink comes in cartridges that you place in the barrel of the pen. When you screw on the nub, it pierces the ink cartridge, and you're ready to write.

Use the starter booklet that comes with your set to practice. The trick to getting good calligraphic letters is in the way you move your wrist. Start with the tip of your pen on the paper, with your pen at a slight angle and begin drawing a letter. As you move through the formation of the letter, twist your wrist slightly one way or the other; you'll see the ink line thin out or widen. This is the basis for calligraphy lettering. Play around with it until you gain control over the width of your lines. You'll find it's easier than you think.
