Put the base of the calligraphy pen's nib in the pen holder. Press on the nib. Stop pressing when the nib is no longer able to easily move down. You will cause damage to the nib if you continue to press down at this point.
Put several drops of calligraphy ink in a bowl. Place the paintbrush's tip in the ink. The ink should now be near the curve of the nib. Use the paper to catch all extra ink that drips from the pen.
Start your strokes and hold the calligraphy pen in the same way that you hold regular pens. To produce thinner lines apply the ink gently. Press down using more force in order to make lines that are much thicker.
