Halloween Tattoo Ideas

Originally a pagan holiday that honored the dead, Halloween, which takes place on October 31st, is also known as All Hallows Eve and All Saints' Eve. Both children and adults mark this day when spirits rise with either a frightening guise or a sweet one. Tattoos can be part of the costume or honor this day year round.

Kids will love both cartoon-inspired or splendidly gory temporary tattoos while adults make a statement with a permanent tattoo that will shock and awe.
  1. Temporary Children's Tattoos

    • Easy to apply and remove with water, temporary tattoos for Halloween mean gleeful fun without regrets. Enhance a scary monster costume with temporary scars, wounds and stitches and complete a frightening witch outfit with bat and spider tattoos. Let a child's imagination go wild by applying multiple eyes to her face or oozing wounds on a neck or arm. No matter how your child dresses, you are sure to find a temporary tattoo at your costume store to add to the outfit.

    Classic Characters

    • Classic Halloween characters can be drawn cute or frightening.

Adults looking for a permanent Halloween inspired tattoo should consider a classic character image. Images of Dracula or Nosfaratu, Frankenstein, and movie murderers like Jason or Freddie Kruger can be drawn up as realistically frightening or cartoon-cute depending on the look you are going for. Black and gray, full color or just a touch, classic horror characters never go out of style.

    Game Inspired Zombie

    • The pose of your zombie tattoo is vital to creating a good tattoo.

Inspire your tattoo artist with images from video games like Resident Evil or F.E.A.R. to create an exceptionally detailed zombie horror tattoo. Basically like any portrait tattoo with hollowed out cheeks and eyes, a zombie or "infected" character image will make a frightening permanent Halloween tattoo.

Add a special twist to this idea by asking your artist to use the video art as inspiration but to use your own face, or the face of a loved one on the zombie to personalize it.

    Four Horsemen

    • The Four Horsemen story can inspire a horrifying tattoo.

The four horsemen of the Apocalypse are part of the Bible's Revelation 13 and express a frightening ride by horrible characters to bring on the end of the world. The man on the white horse has a bow and crown, and is thought to represent the Antichrist, the rider on the red horse brings war, the black horse and rider holds scales and symbolizes famine and chaos, and the pale horse and rider are said to be Death itself.

There are many artistic references for a permanent tattoo such as this including "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse" by Albrecht Dürer--or you can let your artist come up with a new idea of his own.
