Spend a Week or More in Venice and Murano
This enchanted city deserves more than a day or two on your Italian itinerary. There is so much to see and do exploring the canals, the lagoon, the art and architecture, palaces and museums, food and wine, hundreds of shops, and of course, the glass!
Wander the Streets of the Most Walkable City in the World
You'll travel only by boat and on foot in Venice, across bridges, along the canal, down impossibly narrow streets, into outdoor plazas and squares... there are no cars. The Venetians are proud of their glass-making and there are hundreds of shosp where you can see and buy art glass.
Visit all Six Sections or Sestieri of Venice
Venice is made up of 117 isles or islets connected by more than 400 bridges. Make time to see parts of all six sections. They are: Cannaregio, Castello, Dorsoduro, San Polo, Santa Croce, and the most famous, San Marco. There are shops with art glass in every section of Venice.
See Glass Displays in Public Spaces and High-End Hotel Lobbies
The photo here is of an outdoor glass sculpture in a public courtyard on Murano. It measures about 10 by 10 feet and is one of several on the island.
Visit Glass Factories on Murano
There are several glass factories on Murano open to the public for brief displays of glassmaking. Your hotel concierge can arrange a visit and motorboat at no charge. Many of the factories have showrooms with glass creations of every size and description for sale.
Browse Many Glass Art Shops and the Glas Museum on Murano
There are glass shops on both sides of the canal, on side streets and plazas, and in the glass factories. And there is a glass museum on Murano that has a collection of 15th to the 20th century Venetian glass on an upper floor. Browse and shop to your heart's content.
