Fundraising Ideas for Arts Organizations

Art organizations promote the accessibility of art to art connoisseurs and novices alike. Public access to works of established and emerging artists is vital to a community's culture and civic progress. Art organizations need funding to continue offering free or low-cost opportunities to view these works. Fundraising events can be as creative as the art promoted by these organizations.
  1. Silent Auction of Artwork

    • Create an evening of artwork available during a silent auction. Prepare bid sheets that show a minimum bid price and dollar increments for each bid. Include a description or name of the art piece, the artist's name and the retail value. Allow guests a set amount of time to bid, then close the bid process. Consider assigning each bidder a number when he enters the event. At that time, make sure the contact information for each bidder is recorded with the bid number and kept on file by the organization. This can clarify and expedite the payment process for those who win artwork.

    Bid on Artists

    • Ask local prominent artists to donate their time to a bidder to create a work of art. The bidding can take place at an existing art opening or event, or it can be coordinated online with the use of websites like eBay. Artists should define what type of art they can create, how much time they will invest in creating the custom piece, and any size parameters for the art.

    Wine Tasting

    • Organize a wine tasting and sell tables to the event. Each table can be hosted by a local winery, wine merchant or wine distributor who will donate the wine used during the tasting. Ask a few local caterers or restaurants to donate a food to sample. The theme can be coordinated based on the organization's current art exhibit or an art movement it supports.

    Restaurant Donations

    • Enlist a group of restaurants to host one night and donate a portion of the restaurant's proceeds to the art organization. Coordinate the organization's employees and volunteers to recruit diners for each participating restaurant and alert the community to this special night to help raise funds. Ideally the restaurant will donate between 20 percent and 50 percent of the night's proceeds to the organization.

    Fashion Show

    • Partner with a local boutique or department store to showcase the latest season's fashions and sell tickets to the event. A mix of models and artists can walk the runway, or you can use an artist's creations as props during the runway show. The show can be held at a donated venue space or in the partnering boutique or department store if space allows.
