Recruit members for your quilting club through your local community center by asking quilting instructors to make an in-class announcement. This form of publicity is free and also direct. Post flyers, posters and brochures in local art and craft galleries and boutiques. Host a wine and cheese event for quilting enthusiasts in your area, and ask friends to bring two friends each.
Contact local fabric stores, theater costume banks and department stores and ask if your quilt art program can have their scraps and unused fabric. These donations are particularly useful for larger projects or for charitable endeavors. Depending on the skill level of your participants, scrap material is also useful for beginner lessons.
Align yourself with a charity and have members of your program create a large quilt that can be displayed in a local cancer center, children's hospital or seniors home. Another outreach idea is having "Donate a Quilt" month, where each member donates a quilt, created during a particular month, to a charity of their choice.
There are many programming options for your quilt art program. Participate in local arts and craft fairs and educate the community about the history, basics and details of the quilting world. Send members of your program to conferences, seminars and trade shows; seek corporate sponsorship to off-set costs. Meet with local media and raise awareness of the charitable work completed by your group.
