Maya Vector Rendering Tutorial

Autodesk Maya is software that is used to create 3-D modeling, visual effects, simulation and rendering for 3-D animation. It’s a software that can be used by anyone, but it is most often used by animators in the television and film industry, creating animations such as Toy Story. After the initial model for your animation is created, you will need to begin the vector rendering process. The vector rendering process can take some time, but it will help bring your model to life.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Autodesk Maya and the model scene that you have created.

    • 2

Add lighting to the scene by going to "Create," and then "Lights." Choose the Pointlight and switch Ray Trace Shadows to "On" in the inputs menu. This will add a shadow effect to your scene.

    • 3

Create a new perspective view camera by going to "Panels," clicking on "Perspective" and then "New." Choose the Helicopter View, click on "View" and then "Select Camera." Select "Translate X." Lock the viewpoint by right-clicking on top of "Lock Selection." Your camera will now stay in this perspective without moving.

    • 4

Select the Render Settings by going to "Window," "Rendering Editors" and then Render Settings. Move the slider with your mouse and give the lights a lower intensity to about 0.2. This will give a natural sun effect.

    • 5

Choose the render type. Choose "Maya Vector" on the Common Tab within the Render Settings Menu. Change the resolution to 640 by 480 pixels. Press the "Render" button. You have created a Maya Vector to your model.
