A nativity scene is a depiction of the birth of the baby Jesus. Jesus usually is represented along with Mary, his mother; Joseph, his earthly father; and such key New Testament characters as the magi, shepherds and angels. Make the baby Jesus the poster's focal point. Glue pieces of hay to your Christmas poster to add texture. Cut out small pieces of fabric to create a blanket for the baby and brightly colored clothing for the adults. Glue the fabric to the poster. Add such animals as sheep, camels and donkeys. Use cotton balls to add texture to the sheep. Consider adding a quote from Matthew and Luke at the top of your poster.
Create a poster of a Christmas tree, which has been a traditional holiday symbol for several centuries. Popularized by Queen Victoria's German husband, Prince Albert, the Christmas tree calls to mind gay decorations and piles of presents. Draw a large pine tree in the center of the poster. Add brightly colored ornaments. Decorate the ornaments with glitter, sequins or beads. Add a string of popcorn and bits of tinsel to create a 3-D poster. Cut wrapping paper into squares and rectangles to create gifts. Place them under the tree. Add tiny bows to the gifts. Use glitter pens or markers to add the year and a greeting, such as "Happy Holidays" or "Merry Christmas," at the top of the poster.
Create a holiday poster with a Christmas carol theme. Draw a picture of Victorian-era Christmas carolers sharing songbooks and singing outside a home. Include a gas street lamp. Use cotton balls to create snow. Add pieces of fabric to create muffs for the women and scarves for the men. Decorate the sides of the poster with a list of such well-loved carols as "Silent Night," "Joy to the World" and "Deck the Halls."
