Name the Hues of the Color Yellow

The primary color yellow sits between green and orange on the color wheel and has a wide range of hues and shades within it. Lemon drops, tropical bananas, mustard and cheese are just a few of the things that may come to mind when people think of the sunny shade. You can find a bounty of yellow variants using combinations of green, orange, brown, white, gray and black.
  1. Yellow and Green

    • Olive oil is takes on a shade of yellow-green.

      By taking a base of yellow and adding green, you can create many new yellow hues. Variants of yellow and green will result in colors such as pear, honeydew, lime, bamboo leaf, grape garden and olive.

    Yellow and Orange

    • True amber crystals are yellow-tinted rocks.

      Add levels of orange or brown to yellow and you'll get create colors such as gold, bronze, spice, yellow-gold, amber, saffron, tangerine, titanium yellow, yam and maize.

    Yellow and Neutrals

    • Khaki is considered a subdued version of the color yellow.

      Neutral colors such as black, white and gray can be combined to create either brighter or more subdued versions of yellow. Colors in this category include cream, goldenrod, buff, blond, peach, apricot, khaki and vanilla.

    Pure Yellow Variants

    • Lemons are bright yellow.

      Bold yellows with slight changes to their natural hue include school bus yellow, canary yellow, lemon, golden yellow, marigold, neon light, daffodil and cobalt yellow.
